David Loy Cochran, 82, of Philippi, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, at Talbott Personal Care Home. He was born on June 8, 1940, in Century, WV, a son of the late William Cochran and Madeline Spotloe Cochran Humphreys.
After graduation from Philippi High School, David briefly attended Potomac State College where he was a member of the football team. He left school to enlist in the United States Army and served two years in Germany. David worked as a barber, and later for the US Postal service, but he was especially proud of his time as Chief of Police in Wellsburg, WV.
David enjoyed giving nicknames to those he cared about deeply. He is survived by the following: daughter, Rachel “Bandy” Domenico of Fleming Island, FL, son David “Hosco” Cochran of Morgantown, WV, and son Damon “Moochcalini” Cochran and companion Kathleen Ryder of Charlotte, NC. One son in law, Mark “Marco” Domenico of Fleming Island, FL whom he thought of as his own. Siblings Gloria Ann Dant of North Bend, MD, Gary Cochran and wife Penni of Buckhannon, WV, Jerry Cochran of Morgantown, WV and Michael Cochran of Lewisburg. Two stepbrothers Joe Humphreys of Maryland and Jack Humphreys of Ohio. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins including Richard “the Fox” Spotloe who was like a brother. Grandchildren: Gia “the Baby” Domenico, Zarek “Z-Man” Domenico, Broden “Brodano” Domenico, Liam “Leo” Cochran, and Myla “Babydoll” Cochran.
David was preceded in death by two sisters Donna Faye Smith and Virginia Rose Robinson.
He spent many hours at the Barbour County Country Club with friends and was an avid fan of the Mountaineers and beer.
Per his request, David will be cremated.
