STG2 Navy Veteran, Martinez, Daniel Jay “Danny”, age 40, formerly of Alvarado, TX, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025, in Bridgeport, WV. Daniel was born in Cleburne, TX on December 30, 1984.
He was a graduate of Alvarado High School in 2003 where he enjoyed playing basketball and football. He married Katherine Marie Elmore on April 15, 2006, in Fort Worth, TX. After high school Daniel joined the Navy on April 25, 2006. He took his new bride and newborn baby girl, Kloey, to Florida where he’d be stationed on the USS BOONE FFG-28. During his time in active duty, he attained the rank of STG2(SW) as a Sonar Technician (SURFACE) Petty Officer 2nd class and received an award for Junior Sailor of the first quarter in his final year of service. He served until being honorably discharged on July 21, 2009. After his military service, he and Katherine moved back to Texas where Daniel started a career in the oilfield, and they were blessed with another baby girl named Daisy.
He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends and having a good time. The women in his family would describe him as a gentle giant and a kid at heart, with a great sense of humor. The perfect combination for the perfect husband and daddy. The men in Daniel’s life would describe him as easy going with an inquisitive mind and a desire to push boundaries.
Work took Daniel to Bridgeport, West Virginia where he called home with Katherine and his girls. His passion for tackling a challenge made him a jack of all trades and a master of many of them. He was a gifted craftsman and a tech savvy enthusiast on top of his day-to-day job as a Wellsite Supervisor at Antero Resources. This brought fun projects to do with his girls. Eventually Daniel and Katherine founded KD Designs & Home improvement and with their small business they created handmade woodwork decor, clothing attire, and accessories. He became known as a handyman of their little town tackling small and large home improvement projects, sometimes at no cost, simply out of the kindness of his heart. He felt the need to help others just because he could without any expectations. A beloved husband, father, brother, son, nephew, friend, and community servant who will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Daniel was preceded in death by his grandfather Jay Martinez, on his Father’s side and his grandfather Stephen Oswald from his Mother’s side.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 19 years, Katherine Marie Martinez; his beautiful and talented daughters, Kloey and Daisy Martinez;
mother Katherine Lotito Martinez; father Arnold Martinez and wife Olga; sisters Erica Ray, Angela Wood, and Maricella Martinez; brother Nicholas Martinez; grandmothers Rosa Martinez, Valerie Oswald, and Sue Elmore as well as numerous other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Daniel’s Life will be held at Open Door Church in Texas on Monday, January 20, 2025 at 12:30pm with a military tribute.
