Daniel D. Hobbs, 58, of Clarksburg, West Virginia, born January 2, 1968, passed away on May 13, 2026.
Since 2018, Daniel had been a steady and beloved presence at the Clarksburg Mission, a place where change and revolving doors are often the norm. Through it all, Daniel remained constant. His infectious smile, gentle spirit, and sincere heart were like a breath of fresh air to everyone who knew him. Without even trying, Daniel had a way of reminding people what truly matters in life — compassion, kindness, and caring for one another.
Whether he was relaxing on the sidewalk, spending time in the Mission dining room, running errands with the nurses and case workers who cared for him deeply, or enjoying the company of the Mission’s small flock of chickens, Daniel brought warmth and light wherever he went. He never asked for much, yet his presence meant so much to so many.
One of Daniel’s greatest joys was visiting his favorite place, B’s Pizzeria. Every day, he would make the familiar walk up the block to order his usual meal: two slices of cheese pizza, a chicken breast cut up for dipping in BBQ sauce, and a side of fries with ketchup. He would sit contentedly, watching cartoons, sharing conversation, and enjoying the simple comforts that made him happy.
Daniel will be deeply missed by many. Though he first came to the Mission seeking help, the truth is that he gave far more than he ever received. He leaves behind a community forever changed because we were fortunate enough to know him, to be loved by him, and to love him in return.
“The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil.”
— Isaiah 57:1
May his memory be eternal.
