Connie B. Swim, 60, of Clarksburg, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026, at River Oaks Nursing Home.
Born January 25, 1966, in Welch, West Virginia, Connie was the beloved daughter of the late Mervin and Beatrice Burks Swim. Her father was a coal miner and Bea cleaned houses and was a stay-at-home mom. Connie loved her parents fiercely. They taught her hard work, respect and kindness. Lessons that she passed on to others throughout her life.
Connie was a graduate of Mt. View High School in Welch. She went on to pursue her passion at Salem College, where she earned her degree in broadcasting. With dedication and heart, she spent 37 years at WBOY, many as the Production manager and her name was listed on thousands of newscast credits. She directed many live events enjoyed by the public over the years, such as The Jerry Lewis Telethon, Strawberry Festival and Mountain State Forest Festival parades and the Miss West Virginia Scholarship Pageant just to name a few.
Connie was first in her family to graduate from college and was very proud of her profession. Connie was creative and possessed a keen command of the English language. Her writing jumped off the page to its readers. She helped to launch the careers of many broadcast journalists and left a lasting impact on her colleagues and community before her retirement.
Connie is survived by her siblings, Violet Bland of Clarksburg, and John Swim of Bluefield and her God children Nathan Holmes and Zoe Lance.
In addition to her parents, Connie was preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Swim.
Connie hid her intelligence and sometimes her sadness in humor. Connie loved her fur babies and her WBOY family. Her warmth, dedication, quiet strength and decked out girly office will be remembered by her colleagues . She will be deeply missed by her loved ones, her WBOY family and anyone who had the privilege to know her.
A celebration of Connie’s life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, beginning at 3:00 PM, with a time for sharing memories at 4:00 PM.
Family and friends are encouraged to wear purple attire and dress in business casual.
