Claire M. (Woofter) Givens

Claire Mae Givens, of Clarksburg passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at United Hospital Center, with family by her side. She was born on November 12, the daughter of the late George Allen Woofter and Arvilla Catherine Jackson Woofter.

Claire graduated from Lewis County High School in 1950. She was employed as a Food Service worker for O’Day’s, an Operator at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel, and also worked part time as a Caregiver at Clarksburg VA Medical Center. She enjoyed playing the piano, and often served as Pianist for the Church of the Nazarene, as well as several other churches in the area. Claire also enjoyed teaching the piano for many years.

Claire is survived by her significant other, Ronnie J. Watson, of Clarksburg; two daughters, Sandy L. Tomaro  and Tammy K. Upton (Nicholas), of Clarksburg; grandchildren Melissa Hickman (Eric) of Beverly, Chris Ward (Jennifer) of Clarksburg, Brandy Lynn Karney (Pete), of Washington, Pa., Cole Barnes (Emilie), of Clarksburg, Nikki Blue, of Morgantown, Danielle Thompson (Ryan), of Texas, and Melinda Jill Barnes, of Texas; several great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; daughter in law, Susie Barnes; beloved dog, Chase.

 In addition to her parents, Claire was preceded in death by three sons, Terry L. Barnes, Ricky A. Barnes, and Gary D. Barnes; one brother, Elmer Woofter; one son in law, Jo-Jo Tomaro; two grandsons, Anthony R. Ward, and Mark Barnes.

Family and friends will be received at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Drive, Clarksburg, WV 26301, on Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, with Reverend Richard Settles presiding. Interment will be on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 10:00 AM at West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton, WV. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harrison County Humane Society.
