Cassie Kesner Obituary

Cassie Leigh Kesner, lovingly known as Cass, was born on January 2, 1994, and passed away unexpectedly at her home in Clarksburg, West Virginia, on January 17, 2026. Though her life was far too short, the love she gave and the light she brought into the lives of others will echo far beyond her years.

Cassie grew up in Moorefield, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Jeffrey Lee Kesner and Dawn VanMeter. In recent years, she made her home in Clarksburg, where she was building a life she was deeply proud of—one rooted in love, hard work, and genuine connection.

Cassie was madly in love and joyfully engaged to her soulmate, Richard “Rich” Fogle, with whom she shared a deep, steady, and unconditional bond. Their love was evident to everyone around them—full of laughter, devotion, and mutual support. Rich was her safe place, her partner, and her future, and she cherished the life they were building together.

Above all else, Cassie was a mother. She carried immense love in her heart for her daughter, HeavenLeigh Kesner. Though life required difficult decisions, HeavenLeigh was always a central part of Cassie’s soul. She spoke of her with pride and tenderness, holding onto the hope and love that only a mother can carry. Her love for her daughter never wavered.

Cassie was known for her infectious smile, unmistakable laugh, and the way she could instantly make others feel seen and loved. She had a rare gift for joy—she celebrated others loudly and sincerely, never missing a chance to show up for a friend’s birthday, achievement, or milestone. Her friends were her chosen family, and she poured her heart into them without hesitation. To know Cassie was to be loved by her.

She worked as a server at Denny’s in Clarksburg, where she became much more than an employee—she was family. Her coworkers and regular customers adored her. She brought warmth, humor, and kindness into every shift, forming bonds that went far beyond the workplace. Cassie took great pride in her job and in the growth she had achieved, showing up day after day with determination and heart.

Cassie had a deep love for animals and cared for them with the same gentleness she showed people. She adored her dog, Bella, her rats Mercy and Severity, and her cat KitCat. She delighted in their care, play, and companionship. She also had a unique love for collecting skulls and found beauty in things others might overlook—an echo of her own depth and individuality.

In her quiet moments, Cassie enjoyed spending time with friends, recently discovered a love for video games, and worked hard, often five days a week, never taking her progress for granted. She knew what it meant to struggle, and because of that, she had profound compassion for others. Cassie understood pain—but she chose love.

Cassie is survived by her beloved fiancé, Rich Fogle of Clarksburg; her cherished daughter, HeavenLeigh Kesner; her mother, Dawn VanMeter; her sister, Rebekah Kesner of Moorefield; and her paternal grandmother, Sharyn Wratchford (Marvin), also of Moorefield. She also leaves behind countless friends who became family, coworkers who became lifelong connections, and a community forever changed by her presence.

Cassie Leigh Kesner was joy in human form. She lived to make others smile, to lift people up, and to love fiercely. Her laughter will be missed, her kindness remembered, and her spirit carried forward by all who were lucky enough to love her.
