Byron D. Funkhouser

Byron D. Funkhouser, 72, of Clarksburg, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, in Clarksburg.

He was born on March 13, 1954, in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Chester Edgar Funkhouser and Ruth Edna Fish Funkhouser.

He was preceded in death by his long-time companion of 18 years, Phyllis Bowie, who passed away on May 13, 2025.

He is survived by his four siblings: Karen Campbell of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; Mark Allen Funkhouser of Long Island, NY; Dennis Earl Funkhouser of Fredericksburg, VA; and Eric Lee Funkhouser of Lafayette, LA; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Byron was a graduate of Paden City High School, Class of 1972, and later earned an Associate Degree from Glenville State University. He also proudly served in the United States Navy for a short time.

He enjoyed computer games and playing chess, activities that reflected his thoughtful and strategic nature. He will be remembered as a quiet, steady, and private individual who valued time spent in his own interests as well as with family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In carrying out Byron’s wishes, he will be cremated.
