Brenda Lucas Obituary

Brenda Sue Lucas, 79, a life-long resident of Hepzibah, celebrated the end of her life at home, on her terms surrounded by her loved ones and sipping on her beloved strawberry margarita.  She was born on September 5, 1945 in Clarksburg, WV, daughter of the late James Edward and Mabel Virginia Pitzer Ford.

Brenda graduated from Victory High School, Class of 1963. She also attended West Virginia University and obtained her LPN and worked at St Mary’s Hospital for several years before leaving nursing to stay at home and raise her two kids. After raising her kids, she returned to work opening the original Wal Mart in Clarksburg and later opening and retiring from the Wal Mart super center in Clarksburg. Brenda was known for her iconic black and white clothing style and took great pride in decorating her home. If she wasn’t changing the carpet, she was looking for new curtains. After retiring, she and the love of her life embarked on many adventures becoming snowbirds every winter. Together they enjoyed traveling whether it was Myrtle Beach, Bahamas, Grand Cayman, or the Grand Turks. On these excursions she would always be on the look out for a good jewelry deal. Brenda was a long-time member of the Clarksburg Jehovah’s Witness. She enjoyed sharing her faith and belief that one day she would enjoy a life on paradise earth with no sickness or pain and is now awaiting the resurrection.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Donald George Lucas which she married December 16, 1965; her children, Shelly Brady-Deitz and husband Joshua, Donald “Eddie” Edward Lucas; three grandchildren, Jessica Hardy and husband Jeremy, Ryan Douglas and wife Natalie, and Grayson Lucas; four great grandchildren; Bailey, Lilly, Phoenix, and Joie.  She is also survived by her best friend and travel companions Dennis and Danny Bennet of Lumberport. Her best friend and neighbor Alice Beezel. Her sister-in-law who was more like her sister Betty Lucas and her friend Carolyn Fultz who’s daily phone calls she looked forward to. Along with those who knew they were close to her heart. Brenda was a fierce and loyal friend and mother. She took great pride in her family and those she considered friends.

In addition to her parents, Brenda is preceded in death by one brother, Edward Ford.

The family wants to extend a special “Thank You” to Dr. Harvey, WVU Hospice, and Dr. Kristian Morrison and the staff at Shinnston Healthcare. Our family would also like to say “Thank you” to our neighbors who called, provided food, and prayed with us and for us during this time.
