Obituary

Betty Ruth Vanhorn, 72, of Clarksburg, is now resting in the arms of her Savior.  Surrounded by her family and close friends, she passed away Monday, November 8, 2021 at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV.

     She was born in Fairmont, WV, on May 19, 1949, the daughter of the late Herbert and Margaret Kraus Willie.  She was the daughter-in-law of the late Rufus and Ina Vanhorn.

     She is survived by the love of her life, her beloved husband, Emerson Vanhorn.  They recently celebrated forty-seven years of marriage.  She is also survived by her brothers, Barry Hall, of Clarksburg and Michael Willie and wife Sharon, of Lost Creek, and sisters Patricia Withrow of Gastonia, North Carolina and Joyce Knight and husband, Donnie, of Vidalia, Georgia.  She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, John Vanhorn and companion, Judy Russell, Ray Vanhorn and wife Becky, sisters-in-law Debbie Kniceley, and Patty Smith and husband, Jeff, all of Lost Creek.  She is survived by her children, Ron Maxwell and wife Melissa, of Lost Creek, Cheryl Hurda and companion, Robert Lampinen, of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, Kirby Vanhorn, Mount Clare, Jason Vanhorn and wife Heather, of Mount Clare, and Bella Wellman, and husband, Daniel, of Clarksburg, twenty-one grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren.  Also, special friends, William and Amy Thomsen, of Clarksburg, and her beloved dog, Jack Daniels.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Jennifer, and one brother, Chester "Pete" Willie.

     Betty graduated from East Fairmont High School and also graduated from WV Business College as a paralegal.  She was employed at Job Squad as a job coach.

     Betty was the matriarch of her family and loved spending time with her family, friends and her dog, Jack Daniels.  She loved to travel, play the slot machines and going to the beach.  She had a great faith in God and always worried about everybody but herself.  She loved riding her Harley Davidson trike, and always looked forward to the Toys for Tots ride and the Andrew Bo Harper Memorial ride. Betty had a flair for life and was a ready volunteer, whenever needed.  To know Betty, was to love her, and she was loved by many.

Family will receive friends for a Celebration of Life at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Drive, Clarksburg, WV 26301, on Friday, November 12, 2021 from 3:00Pm until the time of service at 7:00PM with Pastor Jeff Parsons officiating.
