Bernard “Bernie” Thomas Bond, 50, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away in the morning of February 20, 2026, following a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Bernie was born on November 13, 1975, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He was a lifelong resident of the area and a proud graduate of Liberty High School, Class of 1995.
Bernie is survived by his loving mother, Rhonda S. Bond; one sister, Amy Bond Echard, and her husband Roy Echard Jr.; and one brother, Christopher M. Bond, and his girlfriend Jessica Cosentino. He is also survived by several cherished nieces and nephews: Shannon Echard McKim and her husband Nathaniel, Roy “Alan” Echard III, Cayden Echard, Hanna Echard, Olivia Lyon, Carson Bond and his wife Anna, and Ethan Bond. Also surviving is his beloved great-niece and goddaughter, Georgia “Geo” Ruth McKim.
Bernie wished to give special recognition to his “other mothers,” Rebecca G. Echard and Edna M. Teter, who held a meaningful place in his life. He also leaves behind many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends, including Seth Teter, Ronnie Norris, Joe Bruzda, and Matt Lear. Bernie greatly appreciated his closest neighbors—Gary and the late Elaine Talerico, Jeff Robey, and Fredda Martin—who were always willing to help him in any way they could.
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Bond; his maternal grandparents, Bernard C. and Ruth E. Monroe; and his paternal grandmother, Arlene Bond Trader.
Following several different jobs, Bernie ended his career with Walmart, where he dedicated 25 years of loyal service and formed many special friendships. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends. He was a constant source of strength for his brother and sister, always ready with a helping hand or thoughtful advice. Bernie was truly a cornerstone in the lives of his nieces and nephews—providing rides to school, babysitting, attending activities, and proudly supporting milestones, including one very special graduation. While work occasionally prevented him from attending everything, he always made every effort to be present.
Bernie loved attending concerts and sporting events, often bringing his nieces, nephews, and cousin along with him. He was a devoted sports fan, cheering faithfully for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Dallas Cowboys, and, of course, his home team, the WVU Mountaineers. In his spare time, he was an avid collector of baseball cards, LEGO sets, and both small and large die-cast cars.
Bernie’s memory will live on through his family and friends in the warmth, generosity, and love he shared so freely. Recently saved by his Lord and Savior, God called this special man home.
