Barbara Ellen (Buell) Powell

Barbara Ellen Buell Powell, 82, Lost Creek, West Virginia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. She was born on June 9, 1942, in Morgantown, West Virginia, to the late Carl Edwin Buell and Irene Gyorko Buell.

As a child, Barbara moved with her family to the North East, Maryland area, where she spent most of her life until retiring in West Virginia. Barbara worked for Acme Markets in both the North East and Rising Sun stores, and was eventually promoted into management, where she covered regions in Maryland and Pennsylvania.

After retiring, Barbara found pleasure in planting and growing flowers, bird feeding, and observing wildlife. Her greatest pleasure was her family. She was actively involved in her grandchildren’s lives, and they looked forward to their special times spent time with “Grammy”.  In her last years, nothing brought her more joy than being “Gigi” to her great grandchildren.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Walter Powell; stepfather, Charles Pyles; sister, Shirley Hower; and brother, Eldon Buell. Survivors include her sister, Marcia Liburdi, North East, MD, and brother, Faron Pyles (Julie) Rising Sun, MD; children, Gary Stroupe (Traci) Lost Creek, WV, and Jeanne Brooks (Rich) Washington, NC; grandchildren, Maegan Harrison (Zach), Havelock, NC, Jacob Stroupe (Stephanie), Reston, VA, Amanda Casteen (Zach), Wallace, NC, Jessica Stroupe, Morgantown, WV, and Joshua Brooks, Hartselle, AL; and five great-grandchildren.
