Barbara Marie (Snyder) Brunetti, 68, of Bridgeport, WV, left this world and gained her angel wings on Thursday, September 11, 2025, surrounded by love and the deep imprint she left on so many lives.
Born in Fairmont, WV, Barbara was the beloved daughter of the late James Albert and Juanita Ellen Snyder of Farmington. She was a proud 1975 graduate of Farmington High School and went on to earn her degree from Fairmont State College in 1979. It was there she met the love of her life and soulmate, Dominick L. “Duke” Brunetti — her best friend, her partner in everything, and the man she would walk beside for 45 years of laughter, devotion, and unconditional love.
Barbara’s passion for teaching and mentoring young people was the heart of her life. She was a talented and spirited majorette through high school and college, later passing that passion on by instructing numerous majorette teams throughout the area. She even founded her own group, Brunetti’s Battonets, where she lit the spark of confidence and creativity in many young girls who looked up to her.
Her teaching career began at Flemington High School, where she also led the cheer squad, and continued at Lumberport Middle School. She eventually found her second home at Liberty High School, where she taught for many years and coached cheerleading for 14 of them. Her commitment spanned more than four decades — 44 years of inspiring students, nurturing talent, and changing lives. She had a heart for service and poured herself into causes she believed in. She served for many years on the Miss West Virginia/America Board, and most recently on the Miss West Virginia Volunteer Board, helping to shape young women with grace and strength.
At Liberty High School, she was instrumental in founding the Junior Humane Society, a reflection of her deep love for animals. She also served on the Patient Advisory Committee at WVU Hospital, always advocating for the wellbeing of others. Together with her husband, she co-owned and operated Smitty’s Pizza in North View, a place where the community gathered and the couple’s warmth could always be felt. She was a devoted member of All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport, grounded in her faith and always guided by love.
Barbara’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Dominick “Duke” Brunetti; her sister, Dora Ann (David) Eavenson of Grafton; her sister-in-law, Rose Angela (Jack) Bennett of Ft. Lauderdale; her brother-in-law, John Michael (Michelle) Brunetti of Huntington; and her sister-in-law, Rebecca Brunetti of Clarksburg.
She was a proud and devoted aunt to Marissa and Ryan Bennett of Florida, John Michael and Josh Brunetti, and Katie Moore, all of Huntington, and Samuel and Andrea Steele of Clarksburg — as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews who brought joy to her heart.
Barbara will be deeply missed by her aunts and uncles: Barbara Demyon of Barrackville, Winona Humphrey of Fairmont, Judith and Larry Kuhn of Fairmont, and Howard “Bud” Hunsaker of Roxboro, NC. She also leaves behind many cousins and special family members who were like siblings and children to her — especially Karen Slaughter, JB and Janel Hunsaker, and their daughters Holly and Hannah.
Her beloved fur babies, Cali and Gracie, were always by her side and will miss her gentle love. She found peace and joy at the Lakeside Campgrounds at Tygart Lake, where she made cherished memories with dear friends who became like family.
Barbara now reunites in heaven with her father- and mother-in-law, Dominick “Smitty” and Goldie Brunetti; her grandparents, Ross and Marvel Hollandsworth, and Burl and Edna Snyder; her sister, Bonnie Kay Snyder; aunts and uncles Robert and Linda Hollandsworth, Edward and Mabel Hollandsworth, James Humphrey, Steve Demyon, Katherine Marie Hunsaker; cousin Shelly Marie Hunsaker; brother-in-law Sam Anthony Brunetti; and sister-in-law Donna Steele — all waiting to welcome her home with open arms.
Barbara's legacy is one of love, kindness, and fierce devotion. She gave everything to her students, her community, her friends, her family, and every living being she encountered. To know Barbara was to be embraced by a heart so generous and a spirit so bright it could never be dimmed.
“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal.”
Until we meet again…
