Asbury “Butch” Carpenter, 70, of Clarksburg passed away suddenly at his residence on July 22, 2021. He was born in Clarksburg, WV May 17, 1951, the son of the late Wilbert Franklin and Alberta Nell Fortney Carpenter.
Butch was a 1969 graduate of Victory High School in Clarksburg. He attended Fairmont State University. Eventually, he would join the United States Air Force and proudly serve his country in Southeast Asia and throughout America. Butch was a true lover of life and had many friends. He enjoyed music, art, and reading books. He was also an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish.
Butch is survived by two loving sisters, Donna Leeson, Clarksburg, and Doris “Dukey” Tanzey and husband Bill, Charleston, WV; one brother, Billy Pat Martin and wife Rachel, Cleveland, TN; one brother-in-law, Gary Parker; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Andrea Jo Carpenter, his best friend and brother, Charles “Chuck” Carpenter, beloved sister, Peggy Rae Parker; one brother- in- law, Robert “Butch” Leeson; and one sister- in- law, Brenda Carpenter Bryan.
Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Drive Clarksburg, WV 26301, on Sunday, July 25, 2021 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton, WV on Monday, July 26, 2021 at 12:00 PM with Pastor Bill Tanzey officiating and military honors by the Taylor County Honor Guard and US Air Force Honor Guard.
