Anna Mae Onestinghel, 86 passed away on January 18, 2023 in United Hospital Center following a brief illness. She was born on January 25, 1936, the daughter of the late Woods Fowler and Bess Kidd Fowler.
Anna was a 1953 graduate of Victory High School. She attended West Virginia University, graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing, and also graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Anesthesia. On June 17, 1961, she married John V. Onestinghel, Jr. who preceded her in death on May 14, 2011.
Surviving are her beloved and loving children, Dr. John V. Onestinghel and wife Lisa of Vienna, WV, and Caroline Onestinghel of Nutter Fort; her much-loved and adored grandchildren, Jay of Tennessee, Parker of New Mexico, Evan and Catherine of Vienna; two siblings; Frances Lynch and Martha “Penny” McNabb; several nieces and nephews, including special nieces Vala, Vicki, and Woody.
Anna was preceded in death by three sisters, Eleanor Vogel, Lou Weekly, and Jerry Johnson; and a son-in-law Gary Shaw; also her Maltese dog and companion Cal.
Anna enjoyed playing cards and working crossword puzzles.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be to a charity of choice in her honor.
A private inurnment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date by the family.
