Alberta Loar Obituary

Alberta Jean Loar, 80, of Clarksburg passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. She was born on October 28, 1944 in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Melvin Lafferty and Christine Eagle Lafferty.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Albert Loar, whom she married on September 8, 1962.

She is also survived by her daughter, Melva Roush and husband Donald of Oakland, MD; one granddaughter, Ashley Roush of Hagerstown, MD; one brother, Gary Lafferty and wife Elaine of Clarksburg; one very special friend, Sharon Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings, Bob Lafferty, Charlotte Wilson, Francis Childers, Jim Lafferty and Ronald Lafferty.

Alberta was a graduate of Roosevelt-Wilson High School, class of 1962.  Alberta was known for her incredible baking skills, particularly her delightful cheesecakes, which became a staple at family gatherings and community events. Her passion for baking was only surpassed by her dedication to helping others, especially on their weight loss journeys. Most mornings, you could find her offering guidance and support, sharing her wisdom and love for healthy living with those around her.

Alberta was affectionately known by many names: Bert, Bertie, Aunt Bert, Beanpole, Boo, Mom, Grandma Alberta, and Mimi. Each name represented the countless relationships she cherished and the love she poured into her family and friends. Her home was a haven filled with laughter, delicious aromas, and unconditional love, where everyone felt welcomed and valued. She was a vibrant soul whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Alberta leaves behind a legacy of compassion and strength, remembered not only for her culinary talents but also for her selflessness and dedication to others as shown through her most recent accomplishment as a lay speaker for the United Methodist Church.
