Albert Frank Merandi, 83 of Clarksburg, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020 at his daughter’s residence in Parkersburg. He was born May 10, 1937 in Spelter, WV; the son of the late Frank and Anna Marie Iaquinta Merandi.
Albert is survived by his wife of 50 years Gwendolyn Jane (Smallwood) Merandi and children, Brian Merandi and wife Laurie of Venetia, PA, and Miranda (Merandi) Collins and husband Greg of Parkersburg; grandchildren, Nicholas C. Merandi, Sophia K. Merandi, and Luciana G. Collins; three siblings, Ann Marie Merandi of Bridgeport, Eugene F. Merandi and wife Krista of Coral Springs, FL, and Thomas F. Merandi and wife Cecilia of Saint Augustine, FL; sisters-in-law, Sandra “Sancie” Smallwood of Bridgeport, WV, Betty McAlexander, Mt Airy, MD; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Albert is preceded in death by seven siblings, Constance Merandi, Martha Virginia Merandi, Sam Merandi (Mary Martha), John Merandi (Anna), Jack Merandi (Mary), Lucy Merandi Mace (John), and Mary Rose Merandi Malfregeot (Marcel Charles, Sr.); brother-in-law, Robert Smallwood and sister-in-law, Eleanor Smallwood Knight (Robert).
He graduated from Victory High School in 1955. He served his country in the United States Army. He retired working in car sales. He owned the popular discotheque, The Carousel. Albert loved his family and friends. He enjoyed visiting others (albeit not for long) and bringing them gifts usually in the form of food or candy. He didn’t know a stranger and had a gift for making others feel special. He enjoyed collecting antiques, gardening, and telling jokes. He loved magic tricks (especially cards) and could fix anything.
Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Dr., Clarksburg, on Friday, June 19, 2020 from 3–7:00 PM. Catholic Burial Rites will be held at Davis Funeral Home at 11:00AM on Saturday, June 20, 2020 with Father Kumar Reddimasu presiding. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard and US Army Honor Guard.
