Martha Mary Robey

Martha Mary Robey, age 83, of Alexandria, VA, formerly of Buffalo Lake, WV, died peacefully in her sleep on March 31, 2017 following a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born December 24, 1933 in Sardis, WV.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Ivy (Hayhurst) Hammond of Sardis, WV, and her beloved husband, Richard Earl Robey of Buffalo Lake, WV.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Sheri Rene (David A.) Lapan of Alexandria, VA; a son, Roger Earl Robey, Poplar Bluff, MO; grandchildren, Katherine Renee Lapan, Kristin Renee Lapan, and David Philip Lapan; great granddaughters Kaitlyn Renee Marceau and Kierstyn Rose Lapan.

An active member of the Clarksburg Baptist Church and its Mission, Martha was passionate about her family and home, always with an open door and welcoming spirit. Nothing made Martha happier than bringing family together and hosting those she loved so dearly at her home. They youngest daughter of a family of nine, Martha gathered family near and far each year on July 4th for a family reunion that became the most important event for her each year. Having been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease in 2012, Martha began a long and difficult journey toward an end where she was totally dependent upon others for her care, spending the final year in the loving care of her daughter, Sheri Rene Lapan and her family who protected and loved her through her darkest days.

Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Dr., Clarksburg, on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM; Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of Davis Funeral Home on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Lou Ortenzio, presiding. Interment will follow at Sardis Cemetery.
