Zola French (McClain) Wine

Zola French McClain Wine, 98, of Clarksburg, passed away at 7:40 am on September 21, 2019 at her home on Sycamore Road.

She was born in Lewis County, WV on February 25, 1921, a daughter of the late French and Nellie Harris McClain.

On December 24, 1944, she married Bryan “Shorty” Wine who preceded her in death on October 13, 2002.  Zola was also preceded in death by two brothers, Howard McClain, and a baby brother who died in infancy, and two sisters, Lois Shifflette and Mildred Smith.  She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Crista Sue Wine and a daughter-in-law, Candie Sue Wine, and a son-in-law, Don Feathers.

Zola is survived by one son, Gary Wine and wife Connie of Davission Run Road, Clarksburg, three daughters, Patty Feathers of Duck Creek and her companion Mike Hughes of Lost Creek, Nellie Shirle Dunlop and her husband Roy of Bridgeport, and Kathy Moore and husband Dan of Windsor Hills, Clarksburg.

She is also survived by her grandchildren: Mary Ann Folmsbee and husband Randy; Donnie Feathers and wife Kathy; Gary Allen Wine and wife Shanita; Brandie Delaney and husband Jesse; and Lori Miller and fiancé John Carter. Great-grandchildren: Jeffrey Folmsbee and wife Mary; Josh Folmsbee; Justin Folmsbee and wife Kim; Jaclyn Folmsbee and fiancé Zack Nutter; Tiffany Bunch and husband Derrick; Lindsey Feathers and fiancé Austin Teter; Ralei Wine; Jaron Wine; Laini Wine; Justin Delaney; Katie Delaney; Ryan Miller; and Emily Miller. Great-Great-Grandchildren: Alexis Hobbs; Marshall Hobbs; Cooper Folmsbee; Emma Folmsbee; Fallyn Jennings; Hendricks Folmsbee; Cruz Folmsbee; Branson Folmsbee; Jessa Nutter; Jasen Nutter; Kohen Bunch; Gracelynn Bunch; and Maddelynn Teter.

She is also survived by one brother, Stanley McClain of Horner, WV, several nieces and nephews, and special friends of the family Pastor Rita Robinson and Midra Gall.

During World War II, Zola and her sister Mildred worked at a plant in Huntington, WV to support the war effort.  For many years she did domestic house work for people in our area.  She was a very hard worker and a true professional. 

Zola graduated from Walkersville High School and was a former member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.  Over the years she also attended Good Hope Prayer Chapel, Stealey Assembly of God, and more recently Clarksburg Baptist Church.

Zola, her husband, and family had a gospel band many years ago and sang in several area churches.  Zola loved music and enjoyed hearing her children sing.  She also enjoyed the group Celtic Thunder that sang songs that reminded her of her Scotch-Irish heritage.  She was known by many as “Gram” or “Grammy” and she loved the beauty of God’s creation.  She loved to watch the birds and listen to them sing.  She loved flowers and fresh produce from the garden.  But most of all she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her family and friends.

There is not enough room here for us to write about all the kindness and generosity she has shown throughout her lifetime.  She truly lived her life as an example of the love that Jesus taught.

Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Dr., Clarksburg, on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 1-8PM Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 11:00AM with Pastor Doug Murray presiding.
