Welcome to the memorial page for

Virginia "Ginny" Kay Lasher

January 31, 1949 ~ November 21, 2017 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Virginia “Ginny” Kay Lasher, 68, of 109 Marshall St., Clarksburg, WV, passed away suddenly Nov. 21, 2017, in the ER at UHC.

She was the daughter of Pauline “Polly” and the late Homer S. Lasher. Ginny was a graduate of Washington Irving class of 1967.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Delene Jurick of Bridgeport.

After high school, she attended Fairmont State College for a year, then she worked as a key punch operator, a nurses aide and a private home health-care worker. For 13 years, she also had an Exponent Telegram paper route in the Hill ’n Dale area of Clarksburg. Ginny loved her paper route, and the people of Hill ’n Dale. She often dropped notes and small gifts, including her mother’s famous banana nut bread, to the sick or the elderly.

Ginny often commented on how beautiful the drive was early in the morning as she came upon a startled deer or bunny and how the birds were so beautiful especially against the white snow. Ginny was a lover of Jesus, her beloved dog Heidi, books, art, nature and animals of any kind. She had a passion for the elderly, sick or lonely.

Unfortunately, it was discovered recently that Ginny had a brain tumor, one that had been slowly growing for the last 40-plus years located in the right front lobe, causing a lack of energy and some emotional problems. Although she was recovering very well from her brain surgery, she fell suddenly ill and passed within an hour.

Interestingly, she had a dream about a month before her surgery and woke with an overwhelming joy saying she just dreamed the most wonderful dream of her life. She said it was “so real,” she was running and praising God. She told many close to her about her dream and started asking the family to get rid of all the things she had been saving. We believe her vision was a gift from God, and it has been a great comfort to those who cared about Ginny.

Ginny is survived by her mother, Pauline Lasher of Clarksburg; one sister, Beverly Bragg and husband Jim of New Smyrna Beach, FL; brother-in-law, Bill Jurick; five nieces, Tammera and Dr. David Faris of Bridgeport, Christa and husband Mark Grega of Mooresville, NC, Lisa Nicholson of Mooresville, NC, Carissa and husband Jason Mastry of Cumming, GA, Heather and husband Matt Troxell of Boulder Creek, CA; as well as great-nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at the Old Time Baptist Church, 318 Harrison St., Clarksburg, WV, with the Rev. Ludwick officiating.
