Robert "Bob" Rittenhouse Obituary

Robert (Bob) Smith Rittenhouse 92 years old of Sun Valley, Clarksburg West Virginia, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the Clarksburg V. A. Hospital with his loving wife of 71 years, Margaret Ann by his side.   Robert was born December 13, 1926 at Wolf Summit, West Virginia, the son of Robert Warren Rittenhouse and Mamie Marie Smith Rittenhouse.

          After High School graduation, Robert entered the Army.  He served in Egypt and Germany during WWII.  After returning home, he met the love of his life, Margaret Ann Newbrough, and they were married on April 24, 1948.  For 38 years, Robert worked in the Hazel-Atlas Glass factory which eventually became Anchor Hocking.  Later, he volunteered at the V. A. Hospital transporting patients to and from the parking lot and the main entrance. Robert was an active member of the Reynoldsville Baptist Church, the Adamston Lions Club, and the Stonewood Horseshoe Pitching Club.  He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid WVU Mountaineer fan. 

          Robert is survived by his wife Margaret Ann Rittenhouse; his son Robert Michael Rittenhouse and wife Melinda and her children John Mason Cross and Ashley Cross Skiles; granddaughter Lara Johnson and husband Judd; brother-in-law Seymour R. Newbrough; nephew Robert S. Newbrough and wife Allison and their daughters, Kristen and Lauren; and nieces Melina and Monta Rittenhouse.  He is also survived by special neighbors and friends Roberta and Jerry Brown and sons, Jerry and Billy; Patricia Murphy; Susanne and David Lynch; his church family - especially Pastor John Hayes; his horseshoe pitching partners Lenny Long and Kenny Wilhelm; and his McDonald’s coffee friends.

          Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert Warren Rittenhouse; mother Mamie Marie Rittenhouse; one brother Jack Warren Rittenhouse and wife Helen Jean Strother Rittenhouse; and nephew Michael John Newbrough.

A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Clarksburg V.A. Hospital for their care and help during these last few weeks.

Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Dr., Clarksburg, on Monday, May 20, 2019 from 2-8PM; Funeral Services will be held at Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 10:30 AM with Pastor John Hayes presiding. Interment will follow at Bridgeport Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the Harrison County Honor Guard and the US Army Reserve Unit from Camp Dawson.
