Michael Duke, Jr. Obituary

Michael Anthony Duke Jr, 39 of Clarksburg passed away on August 24, 2018 in Burlington, NC as a result of a drug overdose.  He was born July 9, 1979 at United Hospital Center, son of Michael Anthony Duke Sr. and Alisa Ann Williamson Duke.  Michael was a paper carrier for Hartland area for four years.  He loved his older customers and would stop and talk and learn about their lives. Michael loved life and as a child he had no sisters or brothers, so when school started, he loved all the kids and teachers.  Always a great student and strived to do better than the last time.  His high school years were some of his best memories, many friends and he was in the Liberty Band and school plays.  On his birthday, so many family members would gather for a very special time.  He would even help his great great grandma in the garden.  Michael graduated from Liberty High School, Class of 1997 and he really respected his high school teacher Mr. James Lachaplle who gave him the gift and love of History. He got his Bachelors of Arts and Masters in Education from WVU. While in college, he worked for Energy Express in Harrison County for three years.  Michael was a teacher of History with Bridgeport High School for nine years. While teaching, he traveled with the High School to Europe.  Michael also worked on distance learning, he would teach three classes at a time at Bridgeport, Liberty and South Harrison High School. He even taught advanced placement.  Michael was a person who would help anyone who needed help.  The people who loved Michael, he will be missed more than words can say.  He loved family vacations with his dad and mom and he was a cat lover and his favorite was Salem.  He attended North View United Methodist Church.  Michael had a love of water, he had his own boat.  He enjoyed taking family and friends on his boat and he and his dad spent many days on the water together. In addition to his parents, he is survived by maternal grandparents, Ray and Sharon Ross Eddy, Clarksburg, special uncles and aunts, Steve and Anita Sheets, Stephen and Barbie Duke, Bob and Regina Welch; special cousins, Matthew Pattrick, Shelby Pattrick, Emma Pattrick, Tesse Terneus, Tia Clark and Toni Siebert; great aunt, Loretta Mills; great uncles, Dennis Ross and wife Charlotte, Randy Ross and wife Joyce. Michael was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Earl V Jr and Geneva R Talerico Duke; great great grandmother, Ruth Hinkle Ross and great uncle Ronnie Mills.  We want to thank everyone during his time of addiction that was kind to him.  We want everyone to remember who Michael was and when he was at his best.  He lost the battle of drugs and don’t judge our son, he is among many good people lost to this Hell.
