Mary Cronin Davisson, 92, a longtime resident of Jane Lew, West Virginia, peacefully passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018, at Brookdale Maplewood in Bridgeport.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Bishop Davisson; her sons, John Bishop Davisson, II, and Thomas Cronin Davisson; her parents, Nina Funk Cronin and Richard Joseph Cronin, of Jane Lew; a sister, Betty C. Lilly of Charleston; and a brother, Richard Joseph Cronin, III of Jane Lew.
Mary was born on February 22, 1925. She grew up in Jane Lew during the Great Depression at the family-run Maple Lane Dairy Farm. Mary’s father died of a sudden illness when she was about six years old, leaving his wife and four children. The farm remained in operation under her mother, Nina Cronin, and her aunt and uncle, Dessie and Worthy Hall.
Mary graduated from Jane Lew High School and attended West Virginia Wesleyan College. During World War II, she worked at a manufacturing plant in Detroit to support the war effort. Mary also worked at the law firm of Stathers and Cantrall, now known as Harris, Wilson, Turner & Davisson, PLLC, in Clarksburg.
On September 24, 1949, she married John Bishop Davisson and became a full-time homemaker, caring for her family. She served as a recorder for the Town of Jane Lew and secretary of the Jane Lew Water Commission. She was a member of the West Virginia Wesleyan Emeritus Club, the Lewis County Farm Bureau, the Order of the Eastern Star, Good Hope Chapter No. 109, and the First United Methodist Church of Jane Lew.
Mary is survived by her daughter-in-law, Catherine Echols Davisson, of Clarksburg; her grandson, Benjamin Grant Davisson, granddaughter-in law, Kareen Francesca Davisson, her great-grandsons, Theodore Grant Davisson and Wesley Thomas Davisson, of Clarksburg; her granddaughter, Sarah Catherine Davisson, of Amarillo, Texas; her sister, Helen “Hono” Cronin Turnell of Bridgeport; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends and family at Davis Funeral Home on Rt. 98 Clarksburg/Nutter Fort on Saturday, January 20, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held immediately thereafter at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jackie Chambers presiding. Interment will follow at the Broad Run Cemetery in Jane Lew.
