Lawrence "Bud" West Obituary

Lawrence Ray (Bud) West, 89 of Bridgeport, WV passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Bud was born on February 4, 1930 in Hollidays Cove, WV, son of the late Edna Pople West and Clint West.

Bud attended East Fairmont High School and enlisted in the Army on February 4, 1947. He earned the rank of Corporal and participated in the Japanese Occupation. He was part of the Army 11th Airborne Division. After attending Finlay Engineering College in Kansas City, MO, he came back to WV and worked for Mon Power for forty-two years and retired in 1995. He enjoyed woodworking and also enjoyed going to see all of his grandchildren’s ball games. He videotaped the games for them and many of their friends. He was a member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church. He was best described by his grandchildren as a “Man that could fix anything, a hands on guy with a gentle touch and a contagious laugh that will travel with his family wherever life leads them.”

Bud is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Nancy Boore West of Bridgeport, WV; two children, Kathy Stuart and husband Ken of Bennettsville, SC and Kevin West and wife Katrina of Bridgeport; six grandchildren, Kody West and wife Brandy of Morgantown, Klint West and wife Dominica of Salem, Kory West and wife Alyssa of Stockton, CA, Whitney Stuart Rogers and husband Zack of Huntersville, NC, Lauren Stuart of Huntersville, NC and Ross Stuart of Orlando, FL; five great grandchildren, Liam and Henry West of Morgantown, Gibson and Zola West of Salem, and Layla West of Stockton, CA.

As per the family’s request, services will be private for the immediate family at the WV National Cemetery.
