Juanita Swaim Duarte

Juanita Swaim Duarte, age 94, of Clarksburg passed away on January 5, 2019 at her home . She was born December 1, 1924 in Marion County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Russell and Nell Ravenscroft Swaim.

After attending Marion County schools Juanita was the fourth employee hired by the Westinghouse Factory where she worked until she was married and moved to Clarksburg, WV. 

Juanita is survived by one daughter, Jackie Brumage and her husband Bill of Bridgeport; three sons, Dan Duarte and his wife Alberta of Clarksburg, Don Duarte of Clarksburg and Tracy Duarte of Clarksburg; nine grandchildren, Brandon Brumage and wife Nicole of Chicago, IL, Scott Duarte and wife Jennifer of Bridgeport, Jon Duarte and wife Erica of Fairmont, Nick Duarte and wife Chasity of Clarksburg, Shawn Duarte of Bridgeport, Kris Duarte and Rebecca of Grafton, Dina Turner and husband Ron of Clarksburg, Casey Stutler and husband Sam of West Milford and Taylor Duarte of Clarksburg; fourteen great grandchildren, Brock, Brennan, Sophia and Amelia Duarte (Scott); Nico Duarte (Jon); Jozelyn and Lilly Duarte (Nick); Kobe Duarte, Zay and Von Turner (Dina);  Ripley and Tyssen Duarte (Kris); Charlee Stutler and a girl on the way (Casey). Also surviving are her dear sister, Barbara Fox of Fairmont, WV;  special niece, Patty Cinalli, Fairmont, WV; sister-in-law, Barbara Duarte Stewart, Taylor County, WV; sister-in-law Doris Swaim, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Juanita was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, John R. Duarte. In the very early days of Duarte Roofing and Sheet Metal she was the bookkeeper and office manager.  Also preceding her in death was her beloved grand-daughter, Erin Whelan Brumage; three brothers, Elsworth, Dick and Russ Swaim; sister-in-law, Rosalie Duarte Loretta.

Juanita was a member of St. James Catholic Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She also loved to play cards with her girlfriends, belonged to a bowling league and was a wonderful cook.  She and John were also wonderful dancers and, in their retirement years, enjoyed being “snowbirds” and spent many enjoyable winters at the Miles Grant Country Club Community in Stuart, FL.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Ruth Ann Watkins and her office staff,  who were always so attentive and accommodating.  Also, a huge thank you to WVU Medicine Home Health and Hospice. The care and compassion they showed her and our family was above and beyond anything we could have imagined.  And our heartfelt thank you to Gina, Vickie, Barb and Robin - you were her angels here on earth.

Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Dr., Clarksburg, on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm; a Vigil Rite will be held at the funeral home at 7:00 pm, Tuesday. Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. James Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 10:00 am with Father Akila Rodrigo as Presider. Interment will follow at the Bridgeport Cemetery.
