James "Jim" David Samples

James “Jim” David Samples, 79 of Salem, WV, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at NHC Healthcare in Hendersonville, TN. He was born December 09, 1939 in Salem, WV; the son of the late Carl B and Katherine Perrine Samples.

Jim attended Bristol High School and retired from the Harrison County Board of Education as a custodian with thirty two years of service.  He loved country music, especially Hank Williams Sr. and Reba McIntyre.  He enjoyed gardening and painting. He loved to travel especially to the Bahamas with his oldest daughter, Carolyn. He enjoyed late night milkshake dates with his wife Josephine.  He also enjoyed cooking with daughter Sharon and watching old movies.     

Jim is survived by his wife, Josephine Quickle Samples; two daughters, Carolyn Samples O’Connor and husband Brian, Murfreesboro, TN and Sharon Samples Conquergood and husband Stephen, Portland, TN; six grandchildren, Ashton O’Connor, Tyler O’Connor, Ian Conquergood, Maxwell “Max” Conquergood, Liam Conquergood, Rori Conquergood; siblings, Richard “Dick” Samples, Taft, CA, and Jean Samples, Clarksburg; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by siblings, William “Bill” Samples, Robert “Bob” Samples, Joseph “Joe” Samples, Edward “Ed” Samples and Louise Buchannon.  

Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Dr., Clarksburg, on Friday, July 26, 2019 from 4-8PM; Funeral Services will be held at Davis Funeral Home on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 11:00am with Pastor John Freeman presiding. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
