Ina Elizabeth (Alt) Elyard

Ina Elizabeth Elyard, age 84 of Clarksburg, WV passed away peacefully in her sleep at home after a short battle with cancer on Monday, November 6, 2017. She was born March 7, 1933 in Petersburg WV and graduated from Petersburg High School. Both of her parents, Herbert P. Alt and Mernie (Yokum) Alt, preceded her in death. Her husband, Samuel B. Elyard, preceded her in death on February 14, 2016. She is survived by three children, Brenda, Jackie and Michael, and their families.

Ina served as Volunteer Coordinator at Union Protestant Hospital for many years, leading Candy Stripers and other volunteer youth groups. She and Sam loved to travel, spending many months in Myrtle Beach, Cape Cod and New Mexico. They also traveled to Alaska and Hawaii.

After retiring, Ina and Sam spent a great deal of time at their farm in Petersburg, WV, where she loved to be outside working from dawn to dusk. It was not uncommon to see her carrying a machete around to cut brush. She enjoyed a wonderful summer at the farm this year.

Ina enjoyed the friendship and fellowship at Wesley United Methodist Church in Morgantown and the Bethel Church of the Brethren in Petersburg, WV.

In lieu of flowers, Ina requested that donations be made to the Chancel Choir at Wesley United Methodist Church, 503 North High Street, Morgantown, WV 26505 or Bethel Church of the Brethren, c/o Pastor Greg Rotruck, 202 Highland Ave, Petersburg, WV 26847.

Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home on Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 12:00 PM until time of service at 2:00 pm with Reverend Doctor Randall Flanagan presiding. Interment will take place at a later date in West Virginia National Cemetery.
