Fred Howell, Jr. of Good Hope, WV passed away following a brief illness on February 22, 2018, and was graciously accepted into the hands of Jesus.
He was born in Clarksburg, WV on March 25, 1932 to the late Fred Howell, Sr. and Hazel (McCormick) Howell.
Fred is survived by his son Anthony (Tony) Kirk (wife Christy), a daughter in law, Sheila Kirk and Carmella Forte, whom he loved as a daughter; grandchildren Crystal George (husband David), Nacole Sears (husband Tom) caretakers for the past ten years, Anthony Kirk (wife Kristin), and James Kirk; ten great-grandchildren, Joey Cassella, Kaleigh George, Breanna Sears, Thomas Sears, Faith Sears, Kaleigh Nutt, Jacob Nutt, Harper Kirk, Braylen Kirk and Khloe Kirk. Also, a brother-in-law, John Hickman and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother Hillis Montgomery Howell, and sisters Ella Jean Starke, Freda Irene Hickman and Emma Belle Morton.
Fred (Junior) was a veteran in the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Era. He received a National Defense Service Medal and Occupational Medal (Germany) during his service. He retired as a very skilled carpenter and worked closely with his brother-in-law, John Hickman.
Fred enjoyed spending time with his family, playing card games, collecting antiques, going to yard sales and repairing vehicles, most of all he loved helping and giving to others. He was the most generous man you could ever meet. He worked and lived his life fulfilling his commission to help others.
He was a member of New Beginnings Church in Good Hope, WV. He had a significant part in helping his grand-daughter Nacole and her husband Tom, getting donations, financial support and carpentry work, when God called them full-time in the ministry.
In lieu of flowers his family requests donations be made in his honor to New Beginnings Church for local mission’s projects.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Family and friends may call at the Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Dr., Clarksburg, WV on Monday, February 26, 2018 from 11:00am until the time of service at 1:00pm with Pastor Tom Sears presiding. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery with Full Military Honors accorded.
