Andrew McKinney Obituary

Andrew M. McKinney “Mac”, age 83, of Lumberport, WV passed peacefully from this world to be with his Lord on March 20, 2018 at Nella’s Nursing Home in Elkins, WV following a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born on November 6, 1934 in West Union, WV; the son of the late Rufus McKinney and late Arthelia (Young) McKinney.

He is survived by one son, Eric McKinney of Lumberport, WV and his children.

In addition to his parents, Mac was preceded in death by his sister.

Mac graduated from Wallace High School in May 27, 1953 as a star athlete. He was a member of the United States Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper.  He served his country in Germany for four years.

Mac was always an entrepreneur of sorts.  As a teenager he sold popcorn for a gentleman who showed movies out of the community center in Brown, WV; he owned/managed and was cook for his log cabin style restaurant in Wallace, fittingly named “McKinney’s”; cut and sold lumber; was office manager for several businesses; was demanding, intimidating and totally responsible about everything he did.  Whenever he could, he would lend a hand and heart to his friends and spoke against anyone who mistreated a child.

Mac loved the outdoors and spent many hours fishing, hunting, cutting lumber, picking blackberries and taking long walks.  He was an avid reader and could get through 2-3 books weekly.  The Harrison County Library was one of his favorite stomping grounds.  He never knew a stranger, flirted with the ladies, cared very much about his health, appearance and finances, and the world was blessed by his presence.
