Robert Salvatore DeMundo

Robert Salvatore DeMundo, Jr., age 92, of Clarksburg, WV passed away peacefully on May 29, 2016 at his residence. He was born July 20, 1923 in Clarksburg, WV. He was the third son born to the late Robert Salvatore DeMundo, Sr. and Katherine (Gemma) DeMundo; they were both of Naples, Italy.

Robert is survived by his loving daughter, Melinda (DeMundo) Doherty & her husband, Joseph; three adoring grandchildren, Rachel Noelle Doherty, Nicholas Joseph Doherty, and Daniel Robert Doherty; devoted brother Edward DeMundo; a sister, Stella Gray; many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and neighbors who took care of him like family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou DeMundo; three brothers, John Henry DeMundo, Anthony DeMundo and Frank DeMundo; five sisters, Gena Llightle, Julia Kornish, Eleanor Gutski, Josephine Moore, and Mary Llaneza.

As a young man, he served his country in the US Navy, stationed in the South Pacific during WW II. After returning to the states, he was stationed in San Diego, and enjoyed exploring up and down the California coast. He loved his West Virginia hills more than anywhere on earth and chooses to live the majority of his life in Clarksburg. He loved to hunt and fish with his friends and bowl with his brothers in his spare time.

Robert's most proud accomplishment was being a husband to his wife of 53 years, Mary Lou DeMundo, and being the best father in the whole world to his daughter, Melinda.

He was a devout Catholic, belonging to the Immaculate Conception parish. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge. He worked for the glass factories: Hazel Atlas, Continental Can, Brockway, and Anchor Hocking. He never missed a day of work. Robert was a great man who now lives in heaven, and forever in our hearts.

Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, Rt. 98 Clarksburg, on Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 2:00 - 7:00 PM. Catholic Funeral Rites will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Davis Funeral Home with Father Casey Mahone, presiding. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Holy Cross Cemetery.
