Delbert R. Ward, 90, of Mt. Clare, passed away September 14, 2014 in his home after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mildred (Billie) Ward. He was the son of the late John D. Ward and Lavern (Case) Ward.
He will be deeply missed by his two daughters and their spouses: Lana and Henry Lewis of Tennessee, Debra and Roger Brown of Mt. Clare, his four grandchildren and their spouses: Bryan Lewis and Matthew Van Cleave of Illinois, Starla and Aaron Schnurbusch of North Carolina, Keith and Angie Lewis of Tennessee, Mark and Erika Brown of Pennsylvania, and his five great grandchildren: Calliope Schnurbusch, Isla Lewis, Ryan Brown, Quinn Schnurbusch, and Henry Lewis.
Delbert was blessed to be a member of a large, loving family, and is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Ralph and Boots Ward of Florida, Charles Ward of South Carolina, Lonnie Joe and Connie Ward of Lost Creek, Larry Ward of Ohio, Margaret Buck of Bridgeport, Madeline Hayton of Bridgeport and John Ward of Good Hope
Delbert was preceded in death by his stepmother Sarah Ward, his brothers Richard (Dick) Ward, Donald and Gin Ward, David Ward, James Ward, Clayton Ward, Ray Ward, and sister Geneve Ward.
Delbert was retired from Anchor Hocking and since then has enjoyed spending his winters in Florida with his brothers, daughter, son-in-law and nephews riding motorcycles, fishing, playing pranks and sharing his funny stories. There wasn't a vehicle he couldn't fix. And there wasn't a person in need he wouldn't offer assistance to. He was deeply cared for by every life he touched and he will be greatly missed.
Viewing services will be held at Davis Funeral Home Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 11:00am until 2:00pm with funeral service to follow with Pastors George Masto and David Mesto officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UHC Hospice. They treated Delbert with dignity and love, made his last days comfortable, and the family is eternally grateful for their kindness. Peoples Hospice Group, 327 Medical Park Drive, Bridgeport, WV 26330.
